Series Advantages
Where flat bed CNC lathes are used
The flat bed CNC lathe is a universal solution for facilities needing a simple, reliable and affordable machine for serial turning of rotational parts. The classic layout is proven by decades of operation and convenient for those transitioning from conventional 16K20-class lathes.
Repair and tooling shops
Production of parts from drawings in small and medium batches. The universal layout allows tackling diverse tasks — from shafts to threaded sleeves.
Small and medium machinery production
Production of standard mechanical parts: shafts, axles, sleeves, fittings, adapters. Optimal for facilities with batches from 50 to 5000 parts.
Vocational schools and colleges
Specialised colleges training CNC turner-operators. The simple, understandable design facilitates learning while quality matches industrial standards.
Agricultural machinery
Manufacturing and repair of agricultural machinery parts: shafts, axles, sleeves, pulleys, flanges. Optimal price-performance ratio for regional production.
Oilfield service
Regional oil & gas service bases — manufacture and refurbishment of stems, plungers, subs, valve components. Reliable performance in multi-shift operation.
Utilities and water management
Production of pump components, valves, heating network parts. Suitable for small repair workshops.
What parts are machined on flat bed CNC lathes
The classic flat bed layout enables machining of long rotational parts with tailstock support — where slant bed lathes with their limited length cannot cope. Typical range — 200-630 mm diameter, up to 3000 mm machining length.
Materials machined on flat bed CNC lathes
The rigid cast bed, hardened ground guideways and servo drives enable working with most structural materials in medium- and large-batch production.
Structural steels
Steel 20, 35, 45, Ст3, Ст5, 40Х — the foundation of mechanical engineering. High productivity in normal machining.
Alloy steels
30ХГСА, 40ХН, 38ХМЮА — for high-load components in oilfield equipment and agricultural machinery.
Tool steels
У8, У10, ШХ15, 9ХС — blanks for punches, dies and bearings. Machined in non-hardened condition.
Stainless steels
AISI 304, 316, 12Х18Н10Т — for food, chemical equipment and medical devices.
Cast iron
Grey and high-strength cast iron — for pump bodies, pulleys, gearbox housings.
Non-ferrous metals
Aluminium, brass, bronze, copper — for electrical engineering, hydraulics, pipework components.
Polymers
Caprolon, PTFE, polyamide, textolite — for chemical industry and instrumentation.
Composites
Fibreglass and carbon fibre rods and tubes — for special applications in energy and instrumentation.

Flat bed CNC lathe FAQ
If your question is not on the list — write us, we will reply within one business day.
How is a flat bed lathe different from a slant bed?
The main difference is guideway position. The flat bed has guideways in the same plane as the spindle axis (classic layout like 16K20), the slant bed has them at 45°. The flat bed is structurally simpler and cheaper, but chips accumulate in the working zone. The slant bed is more productive and convenient but more expensive. For entering the CNC world and medium batches, the flat bed is optimal in price and functionality.
What is the maximum workpiece length?
The Taizhou Eastern CNC flat bed range covers machining lengths from 500 to 3000 mm between centres, diameters up to 630 mm. Specific models are selected for your tasks. For very long shafts (over 3000 mm) we consider special models on order.
Will the machine replace a 16K20 or 1M63?
Yes, this is the typical application. Taizhou Eastern CNC flat bed lathes are a modern replacement for Soviet-era universal lathes. Working zone dimensions and characteristics match or exceed 16K20, plus all operations are automated. Productivity grows 3-5 times, accuracy improves by one class.
What is the machining accuracy?
Positioning accuracy — 0.01 mm, repeatability — 0.005 mm. IT7-IT8 tolerance achievable without grinding. For higher precision parts (IT6 and above) we recommend slant bed models.
How long does operator training take?
Basic training — 5 working days (for an operator experienced with conventional lathes). Full training with independent programming — 10-15 days. The programme is designed specifically for transition from conventional lathes to CNC — no prior programming knowledge required.
Which CNC system is used?
Standard — Fanuc 0i-TF Plus or GSK 980TDc, customer choice. Fanuc is the world standard with many trained specialists available. GSK is a Chinese system with lower price and simplified interface, well suited to transitioning from conventional lathes. Siemens 828D on request.
How much does a flat bed CNC lathe cost?
Entry-level models — from 18-25 thousand USD. Mid-range with extended configuration — 30-45 thousand. We calculate the exact price for your task: send typical part drawings and production volumes, we prepare a commercial offer.
What is included in the machine package?
The machine with CNC, 3-jaw hydraulic chuck, tailstock, hydraulic unit, oil system, coolant system, basic tool holders, safety enclosure, passport and Russian-language manual. Options (live tooling, C-axis, chip conveyor) are quoted separately.
